CYPRUS. Central Bank of Cyprus. 250 Mils, 1.6.1982. P-41cpd. Printers Design on Tyvek. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.A rather unassuming note that will certainly appeal to the polymer specialist. This note, which looks like a normal 1982 250 Mils printed by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co., is printed on Tyvek instead of regular paper. Tyvek, developed by DuPont in the 1950s was used for select bank note issues in the 1970s and early 1980s although its primary use nowadays is in housing construction. It saw a series of notes issued for circulation in Haiti, although it was found that the tropical climate there caused the ink to smear relatively easily, and soon Tyvek was abandoned for bank note production. However, numerous other trials were also made, as some countries contemplated using the material for their notes, which would last longer in circulation than ordinary paper and would provide substantial cost savings. Printed from the normal printing plates, we are aware of only a few examples of this Cyprus note printed on Tyvek, and it was never put into circulation as the Central Bank of Cyprus decided to abandon the project. The first we have ever offered and an important opportunity not to be missed.
