CANADA. Banque Provinciale du Canada. 5 Dollars, 1.6.1907. CH# 615-12-02. PMG Fine 12. Montreal, Quebec. A tougher note we do not often see come up for sale. Less than 20 are known, with 2 being held privately by the Bank of Canada. The bank was formed as the Banque Jacques Cartier in 1862 and changed its name to the Banque Provinciale du Canada in 1900. It continued to operate independently until the 1970s. This example, with a lovely train vignette, is an overall nice representative for this challenging institution. PMG Comments "Minor Repairs."
