1837 Martin Van Buren Indian Peace Medal. Bronze. Second Size. Second Reverse. Julian IP-18, Prucha-44. MS-65 BN (NGC). 62.3 mm. 1904.9 grains. Medium chocolate brown with blushes of caramel brown in the fields. Mostly satiny but with suggestions of prooflike character in the fields. A couple of tiny largely inconsequential patina spots are noted in the obverse field but there is very little evidence of handling, most likely due to long-term storage in its original clamshell box included herewith. A beautiful medal struck from the post-1846 reverse die, with wire rims on portions of both sides. The box is a bit rough, with losses to the outer surface and the lid separated. From the Ronald A. Slovick Family Collection.
