(t) CHINA. Southern Song Dynasty. 10 Cash, ND (ca. 1208-24). Emperor Ning Zong (Jia Ding). Graded "Genuine" by Zhong Qian Ping Ji Grading Company. Hartill-17.634; FD-1417; S-958. Weight: 41.2 gms. Obverse: "Jia Ding Yuan Bao" clockwise; Reverse: "Zhe Shi" (Worth 10). This nicely preserved example displays attractive brown patina in the open fields and crevasses while the tops of the devices offers a pleasing brassy coloration. The open fields are smooth, but retain much of their naturally rough surface texture in the protected areas of the devices. A wholesome and attractive example of this seldom encountered denomination from this dynasty. According to Hartill this issue is not mentioned in the Song dynasty histories, but is mentioned in the Ming Encyclopedia, so this issue is not a modern invention.
