An exceptionally impressive large format 50 Tael ingot, this handsome example offers a chance at a seldom encountered provincial ingot from Sinkiang. A type that is always demanded given the use of multiple languages, this specific example maintains much eye appeal, with boldly impressed stamps. Deeply toned, with a slate gray forming the majority of the surface complexion, and occasionally interluded by some golden brilliant flashes. An example that will captivate the attention of all specialists, as Sinkiang 50 Taels retain a position of importance and desirability amongst collectors of Sycee. It is interesting to point out that according to Eduard Kann by the 1920s the circulation of silver in the Xinjiang was seldom encountered and limited, but was still used in the "Kashgar Taoyin s circuit"; "道驗" (Daoyan) the official named on the ingots. This suggests that Kashgar is the likely location and place of manufacture for these ingots.
