"宝" (Treasure), "元記" (Yuan Bank), "宝" (Treasure). This nicely preserved and ever-popular issue exhibits a pleasing pale golden coloration with areas of minor oxidation. The stamps are deeply impressed with good definition of the characters with minor signs of handling. No box or lot tag accompany this piece. Linked to the "Nanking Wreck". The Dutch merchant ship VOC Retouschip Geldermalsen - built in 1742 - foundered on a coral reef in the South China Sea in 1752, killing 80 of the crew with only 32 surviving. A total of over 800 thousand Gulden in commodities was lost; 147 10 Tael gold bars, over 100,000 pieces of Chinese blue and white porcelain as well as tea, spices, textiles, lacquer wares and other trade goods.
