1864 Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul, Philadelphia Medal. By Anthony C. Paquet. White Metal. CONSECRATED JUNE 30 - 1890 in Obverse Field. Mint State. 80 mm. Obv: Exterior cathedral with inscriptions CATHEDRAL OF ST. PETER AND ST. PAUL, PHILADELPHIA. above, BEGUN 1846, / COMPLETED 1864. The upper obverse field is engraved CONSECRATED JUNE 30 - 1890. Rev: Detailed interior cathedral view with peripheral inscriptions TE ES PETRUS ET SUPER HANC PETRAM AEDIFICABO ECCLESIAM MEAM above, VAS ELECTIONIS EST MIHI ISTE UT PORTET NOMEN MEUM CORAM GENTIBUS. Otherwise bright silver surfaces exhibit halos of vivid powder blue and pinkish-rose peripheral iridescence on the obverse. The same side shows considerable roughness throughout the field, as made, but apart from a few trivial edge nicks there are no marks of note. Housed in the original plush-interior leather case, which is faded on the inside, exterior with considerable chipping, lid separated from base and only attached by the interior lining. The hinge and clasp, however, are fully functional. (Total: 1 medal; 1 case)
