1797 (1931-1932) Birth Bicentennial Detroit Coin Club Medal. Baker-945, var., Martin 51.2. Bronze. Mint State. 50 mm. The 2021 reference <em>Numismatic Commemorations of the 200th Anniversary of George Washington in 193</em>2 by Sydney F. Martin states of this variety: "May be an unfinished die trial for medals 51.1 [Baker-945] or may have been made to allow engraving for special presentations." Martin also opines that this variety is unique, although the present example is different from the Martin plate specimen. Very rare, nonetheless, and an attractive piece with glossy golden-bronze surfaces. From the Ken Beukelaer Collection of Washington Pieces. Collector tag with attribution notation included. Also included is an email from Joe Levine that discusses the possible nature and rarity of this variety.
