1773 Virginia Halfpenny. Newman 5-B, W-1410. Rarity-6. No Period After GEORGIVS, 6 Harp Strings. VF Details--Environmental Damage (PCGS). 114.5 grains. The strike is trivially off center to 12 oclock on the obverse, a bit more so to 6 oclock on the reverse, although the legends on both sides are fully legible despite wear and roughness weakening some of the letters. Dark copper-brown surfaces are granular overall to explain the PCGS qualifier, isolated high points with warmer medium rose patina. A faint pin scratch across King Georges cheek is the only singularly mentionable mark, and it is barely discernible in hand. More affordable mid grade quality for this rare and challenging Newman number. LDS. PCGS# 913274. NGC ID: 2ATL. To view supplemental information and all items from the Sydney F.
