1773 Virginia Halfpenny. Newman 4-O, W-1470. Rarity-4. No Period After GEORGIVS, 7 Harp Strings. AU Details--Repaired (PCGS). 123.1 grains. Dominant deep copper-rose patina with rich steel-olive outlines to the design elements, the latter toning more prevalent on the reverse. Hard and frosty in texture, the otherwise well composed surfaces show a shallow planchet pit in the right obverse field and, more significantly, evidence of repair work over and around the top of King Georges head that helps to explain the PCGS qualifier. MDS, with swelling around the A in VIRGINIA and the following stop, this letter also partially obscured by die deterioration. PCGS# 913272. NGC ID: 2ATL.
