GREAT BRITAIN. Pound, 1642. Oxford Mint. Charles I. PCGS EF-40. S-2941; N-2400; Brooker-862 (same dies); Morrieson dies-D/2. Declaration type. Weight: 119.83 gms. Obverse: Charles, holding sword and reins, riding horse trotting left; plumes to right, pile of arms below; checkered or cross-hatched exergue; Reverse: Declaration in two lines between two parallel lines; three plumes above. A rather attractive and enticing example of this RARER variant, displaying only a light degree of handling and possessing an even strike. Some minor planchet pits are observed, but entirely consistent for the emission. All together, an excellent opportunity for the advanced collector in the coinage of Charles I. To view all items from the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection, click here. From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection.
Ex: Spink Numismatic Circular (10/1957) Lot # 20618 (@ £80).
Ex: Henry Platt Hall Collection (Glendining - 7/1950; purchased en-bloc by Spink).
