Undated San Francisco Mint Cast Silver Ingot. Type I Oval Hallmark. Large Font, Straight-Stem 9s. Ingot No. 1752, Lot No. 6. 5.13 Ounces. 999.5 Fine. 31.5 mm x 51 mm x 10.5 mm. Essentially as made with minimal toning and all stamps clear, although of particular note is the fact that the digit 7 in the ingot number has been purposely altered to represent an 8 (the ingot number, therefore, looks like 1852). The weight is located on the back, lot number on the bottom edge, with all other stamps concentrated on the face. According to Ken Conaway, author of the outstanding website silveringots.com , this style constitutes the second series of 5-ounce class silver ingots from the San Francisco Mint. The present example is included in the Conaway registry. These San Francisco Mint silver ingots have been quite popular of late, and we suggest a solid bid is in order when this one crosses the auction block. From our Philadelphia Auction of September 2013, lot 3323. Lot tag included.
