1900-S Liberty Head Double Eagle. MS-63 (PCGS). CAC. OGH. Vibrant hints of powder-blue toning accent overall honey-gold patina across both sides. This is a satiny and original example with eye appeal well above the typical survivor at this grade level. Approval by CAC confirms the superior quality.
Double eagle production at the San Francisco Mint in 1900 amounted to 2,459,500 pieces. Writing in 2004, Q. David Bowers estimated that the Mint State population might top out at more than 16,000 pieces. This is clearly one of the more readily obtainable Liberty Head double eagles, although we caution bidders that the 1900-S is scarce to rare in MS-63 and above.
From the Dr. Paul and Rosalie Zito Collection. Acquired September 17, 1996.
