MD-80. Maryland. December 7, 1775. $1/6. PCGS Banknote About Uncirculated 50. No. 18176. Signed by Green and Duckett. Printed by F. Green, Annapolis. Rectangular format note that differs from the previous three series which had large left indents. Typeset with border cuts. Back with emblem, motto SUB CLYPEO (Under Divine Protection). Scarce fractional denomination note from this series and likely one of the finest known. So many of the notes from this issue are dark, tightly margined, and more heavily circulated. Essentially unknown in uncirculated grades, a clean and attractive AU is likely as good as it gets. The last high-grade example we sold from this issue was in 2014. That $2 note graded PCGS Choice About New 58PPQ and topped the $1,500 figure.
