1875 Mecklenburg Centennial Medal. By William Barber. Julian CM-28, Swoger-2b. Bronze. MS-66 BN (NGC). 30 mm. This richly original premium Gem exhibits dominant copper-brown patina to both sides. The surfaces also reveal more vivid undertones of cobalt blue, as well as remnants of original orange-apricot color, as the medal dips into a light. Semi-reflective in the fields with full striking detail and exceptional eye appeal. One of 1,025 bronze examples struck in May of 1875 to commemorate the Centennial of Mecklenburg County, Virginias dissolution of all ties with the British Crown -- a predecessor of the Declaration of Independence for the 13 colonies the following year.
