Signed by Frederick Green and Thomas Johnson, Jr. A fully issued "Guaranteed Issue" note whose grade is only limited by a tight left margin. The PMG holder notes "Gift to D. H, Thomas by U. S. Historian, J. T. Scharf." Scharf was a historian, author, journalist, antiquarian, politician, lawyer, and CSA soldier and sailor. The Maryland Historical Society holds his massive collection of 18th and 19th century original source material. The higher denomination $8 and $20 notes are by far the most commonly seen from this series.
