1853 Liberty Seated Quarter. No Arrows or Rays. Briggs 1-A, FS-301. Repunched Date. VF-35 (PCGS). Handsomely original surfaces display a rich blend of steel and olive-gray and plenty of bold detail. This is a scarce to rare issue in all grades, the mintage of 44,200 pieces achieved in two deliveries on February 7 and 19, 1853. As the 1853 No Arrows quarter was struck before the Act of February 21, 1853, reduced the weight standard for this denomination, most examples were eventually melted for their bullion value. The present example, a lovely Choice VF, is sure to attract attention among advanced Liberty Seated quarter enthusiasts. From the Lincoln Square Collection.
