Obv: Youthful bust of the vice president three-quarters left, name GEORGE BUSH above, error date JANUARY 20, 1980 below. Rev: Seal of the Vice President. Both examples with satiny light pewter-gray surfaces. Struck by Medallic Art Co., these coin relief medals were made for distribution at the vice presidents reception during the Inaugural celebration. Thousands were made before it was noticed that the date was a year off, 1980 rather than 1981. A corrected die was quickly prepared and all 1980-dated pieces were supposedly destroyed, although a minuscule number obviously escaped.
