Undated (ca. 1860) Lewis Cass Political Medal. Restrike. DeWitt-LC 1848-1. Copper. Mint State.40.5 mm. A satiny and smartly impressed piece with slight marbling to antique copper and olive-tan patina. The obverse is quite smooth, while the reverse has light remnants of finger prints that are somewhat offset by traces of faded pinkish-rose color in some of the more protected areas. Sullivan (1981) reports that copper restrikes of this type were produced to the extent of 25 pieces, ca. 1860.
