TIBERIUS, A.D. 14-37. AR Denarius (3.79 gms), Lugdunum Mint, A.D. 36-37. NGC Ch EF★, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 5/5. RIC-30; RSC-16a. "Tribute Penny" type. Obverse: Laureate head right; Reverse: Livia (as Pax) seated right on chair with ornate legs, holding scepter and branch. Well centered and struck on a flan of good metal, this incredibly compelling example features some golden toning enveloping the devices as well as some hints of cobalt. An ever-popular type, though general representatives of the series are not at all difficult to encounter and acquire, ones that offer as much as this specimen cannot be overlooked, as it would be quite challenging to have the opportunity at one finer. Ex: Stacks (1/2010) Lot # 341.
