Lars was born in Budapest Hungary in 1920 but left for Stockholm as a young adult. While at The University of Stockholm he would author over 600 publications--no small feat for any academic. In addition to being a member of the Swedish Academy of Sciences, Lars was a foreign honorary member of 11 national academies and received honorary degrees from five universities. Those who knew Lars describe him as a creative and warm person who exhibited love and concern for his fellow man, especially those who were less fortunate. From the Estate of Lars Ernster
