Fairbanks (1810-1895) was a machinist and glove manufacturer located in Johnstown & Gloversville, NY. He is credited with perfecting a set of dies for making gloves and mittens while in Gloversville, NY about 1834. Gloversville and Johnstown are only three miles apart and lay between Albany & Utica. Niles was also an agent for both the Singer and Howe Sewing machine companies at different times. He worked from the 1830s until his retirement in 1870.
