Circa 1858 Impressive two-sided decorative plaque of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence on one side, and the text of the Declaration on the reverse. With a patent imprint dating the work and naming Charles Koppel as the maker. Choice Extremely Fine. Approximately 8 inches. The interior art pieces are bronze shells, that of the obverse in impressively high relief, featuring the usual Signing scene. On the reverse is the full text of the Declaration, complete with signatures, arranged on two tablets. Ornate floral ornaments are around. The shells are joined by a fairly plan brass frame, itself a shell. Nice deep brown patina on both sides with minimal handling. A rather handsome piece overall, most unusual and a much finer piece than the usual square electrotype Declaration wall hangings by Samuel Black.
