A 400th Anniversary commemorative by the American Numismatic Society remembering the contributions made by Amerigo Vespucci who claimed that the new lands being discovered across the Atlantic were not India, but an entirely new continent. A rare medal, just 59 struck, by Victor D. Brenner, the designer of the Lincoln cent. Numbered 15 on the edge, the digits reversed and upside down, as occurs on most of the medals of this issue. Light caramel coloration with Vespuccis portrait nicely highlighted by deeper tones. Some light spotting is noted, particularly in the obverse field. From the Richard Jewell Collection.
