1800 Washington Funeral medal. Funeral Urn. Musante GW-70 (Dies 3-C2), Baker-166C. White Metal. EF-40 (PCGS).29.5 mm. 88.9 grains. Pierced for suspension at 12:00, as usual. Light pewter gray dominates the surfaces while just a trace of deeper patina is noted on the high points. On the reverse the effect is accentuated a bit by an unusual degree of remaining brilliance in the protected recesses. Evenly worn without any serious defects. This piece seems to have been struck on a thinner or uneven flan, so the rims are worn a bit around the top and right side. A classic rarity that every serious collector of Washington medals should have, this is very pleasing for an example that was obviously worn in celebration of Washington’s life.Ex William Spohn Baker Collection, to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania by bequest, November 15, 1897.
