PA-133. Pennsylvania. March 1, 1769. 3 Pounds. PCGS Currency Very Fine 25 Apparent. Small Edge Split at Left. This 3 Pound note, which was the highest denomination of this series, is extremely rare as only 3,000 notes were issued and is missing in most all collections. This is the very first 3 Pound note we have offered on this issue. This current example has the outstanding bonus of being signed by "Jo Nixon" in deep bold brown ink at top of the three signatures. John Nixon is important in American history noted for on July 8, 1776, he made the very first Public Proclamation of the Declaration of Independence from the steps of the Pennsylvania State House. That same year, Nixon was promoted to Colonel, and later served under George Washington at the Battle of Princeton. In 1776, he became a member of the Continental Navy Board, and two years later was serving with General George Washington at Valley Forge. PCGS Currency comments "Small Edge Split at Left."
