NY-222. New York. April 18, 1786. 5 Shillings. PCGS Currency Very Fine 20 Apparent. Splits; Stains; Partially Backed.This scarce 1786 New York issue uniface note was "Printed by S. Loudon" as printed at its bottom edge at center. Black printed text and designs on white laid period paper. The date "the 18th Day of April, 1786" is fully readable and the brown signatures of Jonathan Lawrence and William Heyer are fully readable. The New York Arms vignette at the right side is sharp and distinct having a vivid brown serial number written above. An exceedingly rare issue that is lacking in most collections. PCGS Currency comments "Splits; Stains; Partially Backed." The backing is seen vertically on the reverse of the note.
