NH-38.4. New Hampshire. December 25, 1734. 7 Shillings. PCGS Currency Very Fine 35 Apparent. Repaired Splits.An important 1734 New Hampshire currency rarity. This example is boldly printed on bright paper. Pine tree and merchant sailing ship vignettes. Signed in red and bold brown by Theodore Atkinson, Henry Sherburne and George Jaffrey. Also, signed on back "Hunking Wentworth," being the assignee Merchant whose name appears in the printed text on the face. The face side has a printed text agreement which reads, in part "We Promise Jointly and Severally to pay to Hunking Wentworth of Portsmouth Merchant or Order," within a simple rectangular frame with rounds, at the top is the scroll indent and below "PROVINCE - OF - N. HAMPSHIRE." The lower left shows the New Hampshire colony seal with its pine tree vignette within an ornate design, with the motto: "BENEFICIO COMMERCI" (for the benefit of trade). The reverse side displays an ornately printed scroll design at top with a more central merchant sailing ship vignette apparently heading towards the West, indicating the direction from Britain towards her American Colonies.
