SEXTUS POMPEY. AR Denarius, Uncertain Mint in Sicily, 37-36 B.C. ANACS VF 25.Cr-511/3a; CRI-334; Syd-1344. Obverse: Bare head of Pompey the Great right; capis to left, lituus to right; Reverse: Neptune standing left, holding apluster and resting foot on prow between the Catanaean brothers Anapias and Amphinomus running in opposite directions, bearing their parents on their shoulders. Some roughness and spots of metal loss, but also a deeper tone and solid Pompeian portrait. An excellent budget example of the type.
