Fr. 1173am*. 1922 $10 Gold Certificate Mule Star Note. PMG Very Fine 20.A extremely rare star note. While stars on 1922 $10 Gold Certificates are fairly available, the overwhelming majority of those seen are on Fr. 1173. In fact, 285 are listed in the Track and Price. However, the Fr. 1173a variety with the small serial number is quite a different case. This note is a recent addition to the Census, bringing the total known to just 12 examples. A must have for the advanced star note collector that is rarely offered. We know of only four auction sales, one in 1973, 1999, and in 2008 we sold a raw VF similar to this piece for nearly $15,000, and the most recent a slightly problematic PMG 25 "Stains" in 2018. The appearance of this example is an important opportunity, and additionally, it is one of the finest three or four examples.
