Louisville, Illinois. Bank of Louisville. October 1, 1860. Uncut Pair $2-$3. Extremely Fine.(IL-460 G2-G4 both SENC) This is the first offering we have ever had from this Louisville title and it may very well be the first time a non-proof note from this bank has ever been offered at auction. The National Bank Note Company produced this uncut $2-$3 pair. Both notes are printed in red with black titles, vignettes and counters. The $2 is seen with a woman seated on a barrel with her extended arm holding a sickle at left and a girl and young child are seen with cattle at center. The $2 displays a woman leaning on a shield surrounded by tools at center and a portrait of Henry Clay to the bottom right. Both notes have a blue printed serial number 5491 displayed vertically at right. The only offering of a note from this bank that we can trace is a 2002 offering of a $3 proof which realized $2760. The sheet is seen with just a few light horizontal folds and minor handling. The inks are vividly printed and sharply detailed. This is an outstanding Illinois obsolete pair and two types certainly absent from even the most advanced collections.
