T-31. Confederate Currency. 1861 $5. PMG Very Fine 25.No. 16142, Plate B. A charming example of this beautifully designed $5 produced by the Southern Bank Note Company. The five allegorical females at center represent Commerce, Agriculture, Justice, Liberty and Industry. Minerva, the goddess of war, is seen at left while at right appears a statue of George Washington. This example retains vibrant orange color in the boldly printed denomination overprint centered on the face. This is a difficult type to find in problem free Very Fine or better and this note is exactly that.
