T-4. Confederate Currency. 1861 $50. PMG Fine 12 Net. Restoration. No 618, Plate A. These National Bank Note Company printed fifties were the last of four design types issued while the Confederate capital was located in Montgomery. They were high quality notes printed with engraved steel plates. Each of the Montgomery issues bore interest at a rate of half a cent per day. The present note was issued June 4, 1861 by Confederate agent T. Sanford. The note was then redeemed on June 28, 1861 at New Orleans with $50.12 paid out reflecting the principal and interest. The design elements and color remain bold on this example which has seen some restoration, primarily near the center of the note.
