COLOMBIA. 1889-M 5 Decimos. Medellín mint. Restrepo 403.2. AU-55 (PCGS).The rarer date of this two year type, here in impressively high grade. When Burnett wrote Half Dollars of Colombia in 1971, just one specimen of this issue was known. It remains very elusive today and commands strong prices when offered at auction. Silver gray with good remaining luster and nice eye appeal. Some handling and hairlines are seen. The strike is only soft in a few small areas, and the portrait is very bold. Some trivial planchet roughness is noted atop G in the lower left reverse and a spot is noted above LI of MEDELLIN. A nice example. From UBSs Sale 51, February 2001.
