COLOMBIA. 1886-M 50 Centavos. Medellín mint. Restrepo 312.1. EF-40 (PCGS).An important, rare, and short-lived type. Light silver gray with a somewhat granular appearance and some peripheral toning and scale. An area of the rim left of the date is somewhat soft, corresponding to a planchet defect in the area that may also be seen above A of CINCUENTA on the reverse. Called "rare" by Restrepo and very rarely seen, this is the first example of this denomination denominated as 50 Centavos in Medellín, a byproduct of using an altered Bogotá die.
