COLOMBIA. 1868-M Medio Peso. Medellín mint. Restrepo 292.1. AU-50 (PCGS).An issue of landmark importance in this series, a one-year type and the debut of this avidly collected denomination. As noted by Restrepo, this is the "only Colombian coin with the denomination MEDIO PESO," giving it more significance than either its stature as a great rarity (with an estimated population of just six pieces) or as the first-year of the Medio Peso/5 Decimos/50 Centavos denomination. The surfaces are toned attractive dusky olive gray with darker highlighting around devices and legends. The centers are well struck, and the eye appeal is excellent. A highlight of this collection, even more than some rarer dates, given its importance as the sole year of the Medio Peso type.
