Overall slate-gray surfaces are accented by pewter and olive shades throughout, delivering a complexion of honest wear and originality. This wear is largely uniform, with the devices boldly defined on each side and the rim notably pronounced on the obverse. Just 72,664 examples of the 1901-S quarter were produced and very few were saved by collectors at the time of release.
