1860 Liberty Seated Quarter. Proof-64 (PCGS).,This is a lovely specimen, bold toned throughout with the reverse a bit more deeply patinated than the obverse, although the latter side offers the more vivid colors. Overall sharply struck with the Proof finish readily evident as the coin rotates under a light. In anticipation of strong sales at a time when contemporary collectors were just being introduced to yearly Proof coinage on a wider scale, the Mint struck 1,000 Proof Liberty Seated quarters in 1860. Actual sales fell short of expectations, however, and only about 600 specimens were distributed to contemporary collectors, most as part of the years silver and minor Proof sets. The unsold examples were later released into circulation, thereby being lost to future generations of numismatists. This is an uncommonly attractive near-Gem that is sure to sell for a strong bid to a collector who appreciates richly toned silver.,,
