KM-82.2; EL-80; Jara-pg.5, figure-2 (RARE). "Y" to left. Only 4 mint state examples have been graded at NGC, none at PCGS. A RARE and underrated coin with assayers letters FD. The vast majority of the 1817 issue, including the Spanish colonial types were produced by the assayers Francisco Rodriguez Brochero and Jose Maria de Bobadilla. The FD assayer was only used for a brief period of time on 1817 "Volcano" Pesos as is evident by the few available examples today. The existence of the 1818/7 overdate further supports this as it clearly shows this die was latter re-cut for the production of the 1818 issue. The strong luster and absence of bagmarks suggest that this example is conservatively graded. Nicely struck, brilliant with flashy luster and highly attractive. NGC MS-62.
