1851 Braided Hair Cent. N-43. Rarity-5. Grellman State-b. MS-62BN (PCGS).,Light steel dominates both sides with accents of soft rose and pale blue green in the fields. A lovely coin with frosty surfaces but a trace of prooflike character in the fields which have been heavily lapped in this state. In fact, the lapping was severe enough to result in slightly blunted features in the relief, as seen on the few other specimens in this state. This coin is almost identical in appearance and preservation to that in the Goldbergs Sale 62:482, even down to aesthetics. Just a couple of tiny surface marks and a small retained partial lamination over the N of UNITED. A nice piece for the die state specialist.
EAC:MS60+
,PCGS# 406784.,,From the Twin Leaf Collection of United States Large Cents, Part IV. Earlier from J.R.
