1851 Braided Hair Cent. N-20, 28. Rarity-3. Grellman State-c. MS-64BN (NGC).,Dark chocolate brown with faint steel accents. A couple of very thin scratches left of the neck are the only marks worthy of specific mention, though there is a bit of natural surface debris in the recesses. Underlying mint luster shows under the light, largely from the late die state which has imparted heavy radial die flow striations in the fields. In this state, the die lines found on the fresh dies have eroded away, making the appearance different enough that Newcomb assigned this a different number, his N-28, which has since been delisted.
EAC:MS60
Ex Heritage, November 2014:7096.
