1900 Bryan Dollar. Silver. 38 mm. HK-783, Schornstein-12. Rarity-6. MS-62 (PCGS).,Iridescent silver gray, pale rose and powder blue toning yields to brilliance over much of the reverse. Fully struck with an appreciable prooflike finish, wispy handling marks account for the assigned grade. This is a handsome Mint State example of this Bryan dollar type, all of which were made by Eastern silversmiths during the presidential campaigns of 1896 and 1900. A major economic issue during these campaigns was the policy of free silver, or the unlimited coinage of silver into money as opposed to adherence to the gold standard. From the Robert H. Levis II Collection.
