1878-CC Trade Dollar. AU-58 (PCGS).;Sharply defined with nearly complete satin luster, this premium quality trade dollar comes very close to a full Mint State grade. Wisps of pale pinkish-russet iridescence are seen on both sides, although the toning so light that the surfaces appear almost brilliant. The very appealing surfaces and high grade ensure that this coin will serve as a highlight in an impressive run of trade dollars. The 1878-CC has a mintage of just 97,000 pieces, far and away the smallest circulation strike mintage in the series. On July 19, 1878, some 44,148 trade dollars were melted; it is presumed that they were all pieces dated 1878-CC, leaving a net mintage for the issue of 52,852 pieces. Survivors are scarce across the entire grading spectrum. This is a particularly attractive coin for the grade and, given the rarity of Uncirculated examples, it is certain to attract strong bidding activity.;
