Richly toned in dominant charcoal-copper, the centers are lighter with pale pinkish-silver tinting. Also of note are iridescent golden-rose undertones, intense reflectivity and a razor sharp strike. Proof half dollar production in 1883 amounted to 1,039 coins, survivors of which enjoy heightened demand among todays numismatists due to the scarcity of Mint State examples from the years 8,000-pieces circulation strike issue.；
