1851 Liberty Double Eagle. MS-60 (PCGS).;Scarce Mint State quality for an early date Liberty double eagle that is typically offered in worn condition. Originally preserved in warm honey-orange patina, both sides are sharply struck with a hard satin texture to the finish. Despite a record mintage for its era of 2,087,155 pieces, this is far from the most common Type I Liberty double eagle in Mint State. The 1851 has not benefited from shipwreck treasure finds that have enhanced the availability of other issues such as the 1857-S and 1865-S, and it remains elusive even at the BU grade level, as here.;
