1865 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. Proof-65 (NGC).;A beautiful specimen, richly toned surfaces exhibit vivid undertones of rose-apricot, cobalt blue and pale gold iridescence. Dominant patination is a blend of steel and olive-gray hues. The devices are fully struck, and the fields readily reveal mirrored reflectivity as the coin rotates under a light. Proof half dollar production at the Philadelphia Mint in 1865 amounted to 500 pieces. We suspect that many of these specimens went unsold during the chaotic final year of the Civil War, only to be released into circulation at a later date. Among the survivors, Choice is the finest in quality that is realistically obtainable for most of todays collectors. For the particularly discerning numismatist, this condition rarity Gem represents an important and fleeting bidding opportunity not to be overlooked.;
