(Haxby GA-230 Unlisted/Bowers GA-730-050-Unlisted) Rawdon, Wright & Hatch. New York. Benjamin Franklin in frame at left. Stephen Decatur in frame at right. Allegorical female seated atop globe with torch and eagle at top center. Eagle with shield at bottom center. L in die counters at top left and right with 50 die counters at bottom left and right. 50 to left and right of central vignette. Red "FIFTY" protector centered. Recently discovered and to our knowledge previously unknown. This Bank of Milledgeville $50 dates to the banks brief revived bank issue of 1854. Haxby and Bowers list a SENC $50 for the first incarnation of the bank from the 1830s-1840s with no description available. Neither mention a $50 for the revived bank period. Only the $5 and $10 denominations are known from the 1854 emission. A $20-$50-$50-$100 face plate is known to have been held in the American Bank Note Company archives and this plate B note bearing serial number 88 certainly could have come from those plates. The penned signatures identically match those seen on the genuine $5 and $10 notes from 1854. We believe the $50s, which appear to have been issued a month later, were only issued in limited quantity before the bank ceased operation. The example offered here is a bright note displaying only moderate circulation with bold inks and full frame lines. A tiny piece of the lower left corner tip is absent but is of no consequence. An incredibly important note to any Georgia collector and one that may not come available again for many years to come.,
