Collectors will know that the issued 1, 5 and 10 Yuan of this series were printed by the American Bank Note Company as commissioned by the Chinese Ministry of Finance. Unfortunately, in 1915, the ship carrying the crates with the notes was lost at sea, and with it, the 600 million Yuan in freshly printed notes. A few examples were saved from the shipwreck, and the notes were never issued. Collectors of Chinese paper money will be aware that the 1 Yuan is the scarcest denomination.
