1889-CC Morgan Silver Dollar. MS-62 (NGC). CMQ.This particular Carson City rarity has been bestowed to the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University as an endowment for scholarships. The consignor received this coin from an uncle in 1957 as a souvenir from a recent trip to Las Vegas, Nevada, and it has been cherished privately over the past six decades. This offering represents it first known public offering and it will surely represent a crowning jewel for an advanced collection of Morgans. Its 1889-CC sibling from the same collection was presented in our August 2015 Chicago sale where it sold for $38,187 graded MS-62 PL by (ANACS). <p>As specialists already know, the 1889-CC is the rarest Carson City Mint delivery in the Morgan dollar series, and it is also the second rarest circulation strike silver dollar of this type after the 1893-S. Glowing surfaces are smoother in hand and offer stronger eye appeal than one might expect for a CC-Mint Morgan dollar at the lower reaches of the Mint State grading scale. The finish is satiny overall with modest cartwheel visual effects discernible as the coin rotates under a light; strong hints of reflectivity shine forth from the fields. There are suggestions of pale reddish-gold iridescence at the peripheries, a bit more so on the obverse, but the overall appearance is one of frosty-white brilliance. Sharply struck with even trivial bagmarks at a minimum, this is a lot of "coin" here relative to the assigned grade.PCGS# 7190. NGC ID: 2559.Acquired in 1957 and held privately since. The proceeds from this sale will fund a scholarship to the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University.
