The Fr. 321 stands as the penultimate signature combination for a design that was originally introduced with the Series of 1886. The first iteration of this was discontinued when the Series of 1891 was introduced to reflect the changing aesthetic preferences of the Treasury Department. The Series of 1891 would last through the 1910s with the Teehee - Burke signature combination that was current from 1915 to 1919. By comparison $20 Silver Certificates with the Parker - Burke combination represented a significant issue that accounted for a total of approximately 1,520,000 individual notes that dwarfed the total run of the Teehee - Burke notes. This distinction is particularly felt towards the highest end of the grading spectrum with a small number of survivors like this one enumerated by both Track & Price and the Gengerke Census. Graded Gem Uncirculated 66 PPQ by the likes of PCGS Banknote one would need no primer to understand why this note earned the grade assigned. Leviathan-esque boardwalk margins may observed at both left and right while even albeit frame-like margins may be observed along the top and bottom margins. A denim-blue overprint may also be noticed and offers a fine contrast against the engraved elements of the design including the portrait of Treasury Secretary Daniel Manning who was one of the most powerful politicos of his time and is often credited with Grover Clevelands nomination and eventual victory in the 1884 election. This is nonetheless a scarce offering at this quality and will do well to represent this distinctive design in a comprehensive collection composed with an emphasis on quality and eye appeal.
